Advertisements? Why?
For the past 17 months (17 months = BoxTracker, 5 months = EpicTracker) i've funded the hosting costs of the two trackers out of my own pocket. While this hasn't been terribly expensive, it does slowly chip away.
The trial implementation of Google ads is a potential way to help subsidise the recurring hosting cost. Ultimately my goal would be to make the trackers self-sufficient so that providing the service doesn't monetarily impact my other activities.
Not only do the ads help support the hosting costs, advertisement income also helps to fund the costs of developing the extra functionality that i've been wanting to implement for quite some time. Functions on the 'to do' list include faster index refreshes, longer post history (paging through past posts) and keyword searches (amongst others).
Ultimately I hope the ads don't inconvenience you too much. At this point they're still a trial, they might disappear or even be replaced by something else - let's just see how these go first. If you've got any feedback or suggestions i'm always listening, just drop me an email at the address below.
